Dawn Arrives
Garth Franklin reports that a poster and teaser trailer have arrived online to promote the upcoming release. The good thing about the delay for the studio is that Chris Hemsworth has had a chance for his name to settle into American homes as THOR; which gives the film more marketing power

War Scene Filmed in Milan
SEE THE ABOVE LINK ....
The sun was scorching, the ground was dry and cracked and small dunes of sand shown in the distance.
The convoy of military vehicles carrying U.S. soldiers, a barrage of machine guns, grenades and sniper rifles rolled through the dusty valley – heading right into an ambush by insurgents in Afghanistan.
All of this was found not in an overseas war zone, but in Milan, Mich. on Friday, July 13.
More than 40 cast and crew members part of the independent, small-budget production “Approaching Midnight” gathered in Milan’s London Aggregates, a 700 acre privately owned area of land, to shoot the film’s opening scene.
Check out an interview with the director and other cast members at the Heritage Link above.

Feature Film AKA Jimmy Picard Awarded Michigan Film Incentive
Feature Film AKA Jimmy Picard Awarded Michigan Film Incentive
LANSING – The Michigan Film Office announced today the feature film AKA Jimmy Picard has been approved for a film incentive from the state. The project is based on a true story of a WWII veteran and Blackfoot Indian with the alias Jimmy Picard and one of the nation’s first documented cases of dream analysis and interpretation. The film is expected to shoot in Monroe and metro Detroit.
“Michigan doubles as Topeka, Kansas and New York City in this period film – another testament to the diversity and quality of locations found throughout our state,” said Carrie Jones, director of the Michigan Film Office. “Michigan beat out a number of other states for this project, helping to put our crew and talent here in the state to work.”
The project was awarded an incentive of $1,964,810 on $6,929,375 of projected in-state expenditures. The project is expected to hire 135 Michigan workers with a full time equivalent of 35 jobs.
The project is being directed by celebrated director Arnaud Desplechin and produced by the French company Why Not Productions. Why Not Productions has produced A Prophet and the remake of Assault of Precinct 13 as well a number of BAFTA and Cannes-award winning films.
“From the compelling locations to a competitive incentive program, Michigan offered the best all-around package for filming AKA Jimmy Picard,” said Jennifer Roth, producer on the project. “We have some fantastic locations lined up and we are excited to start filming.”
To date in 2012, three projects have been awarded a total of $14,149,273 on $47,936,564 of approved production expenditures for the year. These projects are expected to create 630 Michigan hires with a full time equivalent of 206 jobs.

Michigan Film Office Goes Mobile with New iPhone App!
“We are always looking for ways to be more customer-friendly and responsive to the industry, and this is a terrific tool to compliment the incredible locations and talented crew Michigan has to offer,” said Carrie Jones, director of the Michigan Film Office. “As we move forward under the state’s new film incentive program embracing innovations like this app will play a key role in giving Michigan a competitive edge in attracting great projects.”
The app, created by Reel-Scout Inc., is free and utilizes a mobile friendly platform that allows users from large and small projects alike to tap into the Film Office Locations database and Michigan crew and vendor directories directly from their iPhone.
Directors, location managers and scouts on the road can access 78,000 photos of more than 5,400 locations across the state and with the app, searching by region, city or landmark – anything a scene might call for. For convenient referencing, the app also allows users to map the locations directly to their phone – a feature that provides an advantage for users scouting in Michigan for projects. Users will also be able to submit new locations or modify existing photos in the database directly from their mobile phone.
“The Michigan Film Office team is constantly developing innovative ways to keep Michigan a top choice for productions,” said locations manager George Constas. “This new iPhone app is an amazing tool that showcases the beauty and variety of our state, while at the same time creating a more efficient filmmaking process. This app will also show the world how synergy between producers, our film office, and local location managers can be maximized.”
The complete Michigan Film Office production directory of Michigan crew and support services is also accessible through the new app. These entries include contact information, resumes and credits for industry professionals in the state, which can be tapped by projects looking to hire. Users may also utilize the app to register or update their entry in the production directory in real time.
